Cars are objects of desire and looks come into play big-time. Here we celebrate design greatness with some of the most beautiful cars ever built. Among the highlights are the astonishingly gorgeous Bugatti Type 41 Royale and Porsche 911.

1937 8C Alfa Romeo

The Alfa Romeo 8C name was used on road, race and sports cars of the 1930s. The 8C means 8 cylinders, and originally referred to a straight 8-cylinder engine. The Vittorio Jano designed 8C was Alfa Romeo's primary racing engine from its introduction in 1931 to its retirement in 1939.

The car has scalloped rear fender skirts. It is indeed one of the most beautiful cars in the world.

1937 Delahaye 135MS Figoni et Falaschi

Delahaye's 1937 model sported aerodynamic aluminum bodywork from Figoni et Falaschi, draped over a short-wheelbase competition chassis. The original design included such innovations as scissors-jacks under the running boards to assist with tire changing, an ultra-light tubular seat frame, a "disappearing top", and a windshield that could be retracted into the bodywork.

Ferrari 250 GT SWB

The Ferrari 250 is a sports car built by Ferrari from 1953 to 1964. The company's most successful early line, the 250 series included several variants. One of the most important GT racers of its time, the 1959 250 GT SWB used a short (2,400 mm (94.5 in)) wheelbase for better handling.

1957 Ferrari 250 Testarossa Pontoon Fender

The 1957 Ferrari 250 Testarossa, one of just 22 similar models built at Maranello, boasts an important race history in North and South America. It debuted in the Buenos Aires 1,000km in 1958.

McLaren F1

Introduced in 1993, McLaren F1 is one of the most expensive supercars in the world. F1 features a 6.0 l BMW engine that can reach 60mph (97km/h) in 3.1 seconds. It has a fully carbon fibre monocoque structure and a central driving position with two offset rear passenger seats.

1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster

The early thirties saw Daimler-Benz begin to design high-speed touring cars, culminating in 1936 with the construction of the 540K. The eight-cylinder, 5.4 l big-bore engine was supercharged and engaging. The engine developed 180 horsepower, was capable of 0-60 mph in 16.4 seconds and had a top speed of 105 mph.

The 540K is considered to be one of the sexiest cars of all time.

Bugatti Type 41 Royale

Crafted by Ettore Bugatti, the Type 41 is said to have come about because he took exception to the comments of an English lady who compared his cars unfavourably with those of Rolls-Royce. The prototype with a 15 l capacity, is one of the largest automobile engines ever made, producing 205 to 223 kW.

1938 Talbot-Lago T150 CSS Tear Drop Figoni et Falaschi

Of the few cars described as rolling sculpture, the Talbot-Lago Teardrop by Figoni et Falaschi is the oldest and most frequently praised as such. During its era, the Teardrop, also known as the 'Goutte d'Eau', was one of the select few automobiles that both redefined automotive style and won top-level races. Having successfully combined racing function and elegant form, the Teardrop became trend setting and motivated many other French manufacturers to consider more streamlined design.

For 45 years and still counting, although mechanicals underneath has gone significant changes, the unmistakable profile of 911 has remained essentially the same. So much so that Porsche has used the 9/11's outline as logo.

2008 Koenigsegg CCX

The Koenigsegg CCX is a mid-engined roadster from Swedish car manufacturer Koenigsegg. The CCX has been engineered to comply with the U.S. regulation and market demands and is an evolutionary design that replaced the Koenigsegg CCR.

The 2008 edition has carbon fiber texture in the body. It has a grayish woven look, and looks beautiful.
